What You'll Learn

1. Understand the innovative structural design strategies that enabled the construction of Ontario's first 10-story mass timber institutional building.

2. Identify key construction challenges and solutions implemented during the installation of unique building elements

3. Recognize practical approaches for implementing mass timber construction techniques in large-scale, high-performance institutional buildings

Join PCL Construction’s lead experts for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes journey through the ambitious construction of Limberlost Place. You'll uncover real-world strategies and field-tested solutions that transformed complex, pioneering design concepts into reality

Attendees will see the planning and on-site installation learnings from the perspective of the general contractor and mass timber erector, PCL Construction. The presentation will explore some of the construction’s more challenging and unique elements including:

·        Installation of the first of its kind, structural composite slab band

·        A mass timber pedestrian bridge that spans over seventy feet, five stories in the air

·        The three storey Learning Landscape atrium that showcases some of North America’s largest glulam columns

·        The daunting cross laminated timber roof panels that sit at a 37 degree pitch

Project Summary

Limberlost Place, a 10-story exposed mass timber building at George Brown College, in Toronto, Ontario. It is a highly progressive, low carbon, low energy institutional building that is the first of its kind in Ontario. The large span, tall wood building exemplifies innovative mass timber construction.
